A box column beam is a type of beam composed of two steel plates and other components, partitioned along the axis of symmetry or at the junction of different shapes, and installed and welded in coordination with the hoisting sequence. Like H-shaped steel, it is frequently used in steel structure construction projects, typically in steel structure factories and bridge construction, serving as columns or main beams in steel structure engineering. Compared to concrete and wooden beams, box column beams offer advantages such as high load-bearing capacity, light weight, good stability and stiffness, and convenient construction and transportation. They have been widely used in various bridge constructions, including highway bridges, railway bridges, and cable-stayed bridges. The box beam resembles a large iron box in appearance, hence the name "box column beam."
Steel structure box column beams are a common form of steel structure, primarily composed of box columns and box beams. They are typically welded from steel plates and possess high strength and rigidity, making them suitable for various building and industrial structures.
Box columns are welded from rectangular steel plates enclosed on all four sides. Compared to traditional square or circular columns, box columns have greater load-bearing capacity and are lighter in weight. Box beams are also welded from rectangular steel plates, with a rectangular cross-section that is more compact than traditional I-beams, allowing for a reduction in structural height.
